Earrings occupied a special place in Russian jewellery. The demand was so great, that in the17thcentury there were special craftsmen making only this kind of jewels. The metropolitan jewellers made the most refined gold earrings with various gemstones. Traditional and typical earrings of the 17th century were shaped as a crescent, with faceted pendants richly decorated with pearls, rubies, emeralds and multicolored enamel.
