A visit to Hiogo and Osaka: reception was excellent, Prince Date accompanied us here on board of a Japanese corvette from Nagasaki. On Saturday we depart to Yedo.

Nagasaki. Beginning from this port a new period of our voyage, I can say that of all the countries we visited during the first period, Grand Duke in most detail has seen Japan, the country mostly deserving our attention, both for the reasons of an all-over reform taking place here, and its closeness to Russian borders.
