GENERAL INFORMATION

State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSIZO of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation was established in 1959. Its main mission was to organize and to hold exhibitions of artifacts from Russian museums and to buy pieces of fine art for further distribution between the Russian museums.

ROSIZO has been in business relations with more than 250 Russian museums. ROSIZO also purchases fine art pieces for the most famous museums such as Tretyakov Gallery, Hermitage and the State Russian Museum.

Nowadays ROSIZO isn’t only a professional organizer and executive body of various exhibition projects of the Russian Ministry of Culture, but it is also a creative entity that develops original art projects that offers the Russian and international museum community mutually profitable cooperation for implementing these ideas and projects.

STRUCTURE OF ROSIZO

Exhibition projects directorate

The Directorate is a modern art bureau compiling exhibitions based on artifacts from depositaries of the Russian museums (the main direction of the Directorate) and private collections. The directorate has organized more than 100 exhibitions in Russia and in other countries — from Australia to the South Korea and France, England and the USA since 1998. Among the exhibitions there were remarkable projects such as — "Russian art of the Central Russia museums", "Russia: a thousand years of history and culture", "Malevitch and the Russian vanguard" and etc.

The exhibition bureau is in cooperation with modern Russian artists and art galleries. It assists them in implementing different art projects and provides exhibition organization services for big companies.

Development of international exhibitions in cooperation with leading Russian museums is one of the most important and prospective directions for ROSIZO.

ROSIZO has worked out its own mechanism of technical preparations of exhibitions, which allows to implement any complicated art project proving it with all necessary services at all stages.

The logistics division of the Directorate is in charge of safe transportation of the artifacts and custom clearance.

The frame workshop is responsible for framing of paintings, prints and photographs according to museums regulations.

The service department is in charge of packing of fine art pieces according to museum regulations of conservation; it provides safe transportation, mantling and dismantling, loading and unloading of the artifacts during transportation.

Apart from that ROSIZO provides the exhibitions with PR-campaigns and with publishing of catalogs and other advertising materials.

Directorate of the Russian museums depositaries.

As a part of ROSIZO the Directorate develops universal methods of inventorying museums artifacts and keeps the State register of artifacts from the Russian museums.

ROSIZO plans to build a sophisticated computer database (with images and descriptions of the artifacts) for all museums pieces from all the Russian museums, which will make it easier for curators and museums works with the artifacts during preparations for exhibitions.

Besides the Directorate is in charge of the following:

  • Expertise and temporary storage of cultural valuables that were confiscated by the customs, police and state security bodies;
  • Distribution between the Russian museums artifacts that were either confiscate or were assigned to the state;
  • Development of security programs for the Russian museums;
  • Coordination of exhibitions held by the Russian museums; assistance to museums unions and associations and the Russian committee of the International museums council (ICOM).

ROSIZO’s depositaries

ROSIZO’s depositaries have more than 70 thousand artifacts of all kinds and art directions — paintings and prints, ceramics and glass, vanguard (model of "III International monument") and socialistic realism (for instance, painting "For the great Russian nation!" by Stalin’s prize winner Michael Khmelko). Artifacts from the ROSIZO’s depositaries were shown at large international exhibitions such as Moscow-Berlin and Russian Vanguard of the 1910’s — 1920’s in Buenos-Aires.

ROSIZO assigns artifacts from its depositary to the Russian museums. Experts of the ROSIZO conservation department accompany artifacts at mantling dismantling of exhibitions.

ROSIZO has a large publishing center that issues ART CHRONIKA magazine — an international magazine that covers various art events, modern trends of the Russian art and role of the Russian art in the international cultural arena. The magazine cooperates with leading art-critics and art historians. Thus, it is a competent source of information that has won trust of museums, exhibition centers, art galleries and art lovers. The well-illustrated bilingual (Russian and English language versions) magazine is to bring cultural heritage and modern Russian art to people in Russia and abroad.

Moreover, the publishing center also issues catalogs, press information materials, booklets and other advertising materials for exhibitions; it also issues an annual brochure with summaries on exhibition projects.
